Patrick’s French Bakery
60th & Lyndale
inside Bachmans
612-861-92277

The cafe features an amazing selection of Patrick Bernet's made-fresh daily selections of French breads, baguettes, country bread, 7-grain breads, petites and grandes boules; and speciality breads like Tomato Provencal and Roasted Red Pepper. Croissants, pain au chocolat, apricot soleil and glistening pineapple danish (Patrick's personal favorite) will be available every day. The individual pastries offered are irresistible. You'll find wonderful standards, like eclairs, napoleons, fruit tarts and creme brulees, and tantalizing Patrick's specialties that are beyond description, including the Trilogy Chocolate cake, Feuillantine Pralinee and Tiramisu.

Bakery on Grand
3804
Grand Ave S.
Minneapolis, MN 55409
612-822-8260

At night, candlelight and rich bistro fare transform this beloved neighborhood bakery into a romantic dining destination.

Inside this brick storefront, patrons are greeted by well-worn, bleached-wood floors and a beautiful pressed-tin ceiling. Mornings, regulars watch the bakers fill wire racks with crisp baguettes and pungent olive bread as the espresso machine rumbles in the background. After dark, two rooms accommodate the dinner crowd; candlelight flickers, friendly waitstaff uncork wines and romance pervades.

The artisanal loaves are beauteous, but they're not the only reason to frequent this charming spot. There are also meltingly delicious scones, fluffy brioche french toast or addictive chocolate shortbread squares. For lunch, there's hearty cassoulet big enough to share. At dinner, sample house-made pâtés, or langoustines buttery-rich in mushroom sauce, then tuck into comforting coq au vin--tender and intense with flavor. Other winners include duck succulently slipping off the bone and perfectly roasted venison glazed sweetly with black curran.

The New French Bakery
http://www.newfrenchbakery.com/
2609 26th Ave S.
Minneapolis, MN 55406
612-728-0193

Peter Kelsey, Owner, Baker of the New French Bakery has been fascinated with baking since he was seven. As a young adult he attended the Cordon Bleu Cooking School in Paris but left to study as an apprentice with a Parisian baker. There he learned the importance of using real ingredients and a skilled craftsman's approach to production baking.

In 1995 Peter opened a retail bakery in Minneapolis, Minnesota that also supplied breads and pastries to some of the cities finest restaurants. As demand increased Peter used his connections in Europe and his interest in technology to import customized cutting-edge equipment that would insure consistent quality and the volume his customers needed. The New French Bakery Bread is the choice of renowned chefs, retail bakery managers, and gourmet cooks throughout the Midwest, and Southwest.

Cavé Vin
http://www.mspmag.com/feature.asp?featureID=3025/
5555 Xerxes Ave. S.
Minneapolis, MN 55410
612-922-0100

"If you’re an unrepentant Francophile gastronome wondering where you can go for your periodic fix of moules, steak-frites and tarte tatin now that un deux trois is no more, by all means consider Cavé Vin. This south Minneapolis bistro, the new venture from the folks who own the popular Pane Vino Dolce, isn’t likely to receive any Michelin stars, but with its classic menu, solid preparation, and notably modest prices, it’s little wonder that the twenty-plus–table spot has remained consistently packed since the doors opened this spring. Though I’d like to see dishes more aggressively flavored, Cavé Vin is arguably the only classic French brasserie in the area, and I very much appreciate its thematic purity."

Alfred’s Grand Petit Magasin

Edina MN, 55410
Phone: 952-345-6696

"Even the ultra-chic get puckish, and Alfred's Grand Petit Magasin (big little store) has seen to a solution. Shopping in this modish and diverse mini-department store is hardly taxing, but that doesn't mean you can't kick up your Jimmy Choos for a while and compare purchases over a snack at Alfred's Cafe. Crusty baguettes, elegantly composed salads, and spicy crostini plates all play well to ladies who lunch. Set your bag down and order one of the tartines, open-faced sandwich decked with such lovely things as oven-roasted tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, ripe cheeses and, on the rosemary-marinated chicken breast version, a biting and sweet raspberry mustard."
